The amazing owner of BOTORI (equestrian riding and lifestyle apparel brand) reached out with a bridal inspired portrait session for an all white BOTORI riding outfit featuring a white horse and a black Remarkable Leather Goods halter. The mood was fairytale, dress up and dreamy which made me instantly think of the fairytale forest at the JBLM areas. For a real equestrian model I a local equestrian, Tatum who was more than happy to be a part of BOTORI’s vision! Tatum is an equestrian with her own adorable chestnut mare named Friday. She recently graduated from Washington State University where she brought her horse with her! We love when horses go to college with their humans! As for a white horse, Jennie’s big beautiful gelding, Truman, was the first one to pop in mind for me! He is a Jockey Club white thoroughbred registered as True Blue Moon. He was born in 2011, bred by Jen Tarr of Stonehouse Meadows Sport Horses in Colorado. His sire is Arctic Blue and dam is Our White Lady. White thoroughbreds are extremely rare and he comes from the Airdrie Apache line of white thoroughbreds. Truman isn’t all looks, his personality is sweet as can be and he was the perfect gentleman for our entire photoshoot. Even when we decided to run around and be crazy!
We photographed at a Joint Bases Lewis-McChord area where public are allowed to be if they have a range pass. Only one range pass is required per group, so my range pass was good enough for us to get to this base area. JBLM has multiple areas with beautiful trails for equestrians and stunning open areas for portraits. (If you are looking for information on obtaining a ranch pass check out this helpful PDF!) However, because it is a base training area it is important to call ahead and ensure the area is open for public. It is also important to keep in mind that military always takes priority, so if you are asked to leave the location you are at by military personell you are required to do so, even if you had approval to be there. For photoshoots this just means we need to have a couple backup locations in mind. However for this BOTORI photoshoot we were totally fine with our first choice in location! No one was there, not even other trail riders! It was amazing to have the entire area to ourselves!
Ok, and not to be a spoiler to the end of a movie, but the BOTORI outfit stayed white the entire photoshoot! We were definitely attempting to keep it clean, but it is still insane that you can spend 2 hours with a horse in the woods and walk away with a completely clean white outfit! The BOTORI material is super easy to wipe dirt off of which is one of the many reasons it’s so perfect for the barn!
Also check out the bloopers for a peek at how we all showed up to the session in BOTORI! I had on my favorite Riley Tech top (feels like butter) and camo wind breaker, Jennie (Truman’s owner and the best horse handler I have ever has at a photoshoot!) had on the new sage green riding tights (SUCH A STUNNING COLOR!) and Tatum had on the all white BOTORI look featuring riding tights and a Riley top. We loved that we all had on BOTORI for the shoot so I had to have my husband take a couple photos for us! Those photos are at the bottom under the highlight video!
